2022 RIKARD Sparkling Pinot Noir Rosé

$60.00
$51.00

Our 2022 Sparkling Rosé is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes sourced from 1080m above sea-level – the highest in the Orange region.

2022 was another fantastic, cool year for sparkling wine, the grapes having plenty of natural acidity alongside a lovely amount of phenological ripeness. It was whole bunch picked into small containers and then placed directly into the fermenter on the back of the ute in the vineyard! The whole clusters were then fermented via carbonic maceration for 11 days which brought out the strong cherry and strawberry aromas on the nose. It was then pressed and matured in two French oak barrels for 12 months.

The wine went through its second fermentation in bottle and was allowed to rest en tirage for 12 months before disgorgement in late January 2024. The result is a complex and intensely aromatic pink sparkling wine which is perfect with food or on its own.

Only very small quantities were made of this unique wine.

Description

We draw our inspiration for our sparkling wines from the “grower-style” wines of France. Sustainable winegrowing, minimal intervention winemaking, and a focus on the finished product being a fine wine of complexity and interest first and foremost – the bubbles being just another component to enhance their flavours.

We harvest fruit with half a degree of extra ripeness for a more full-bodied palate. We utilise endemic, “wild” yeast strains for complexity.

We ferment in old oak barrels and stir the wines during maturation for added texture. The base wines are then tiraged after 10 months of maturation and aged on lees for at least 4-5 years to bring yet more complexity and that lovely biscuity, toasty character you associate with great sparklings. They’re wines that are best poured into large glasses, swirled and sniffed and savoured not too cold, and they’re wines which should age well too.

COLOUR – Mild salmon pink with a fine bead.

NOSE – Strawberries and glacé cherries appear early, a hint of orange rind. The aromas are complexed by some savoury, struck match notes derived from lees ageing and a small amount of new-ish oak.

PALATE – A full and complex palate with plenty of weight to wrap around the intense spine of acid running through.  Blood orange, Amaro, cherries, white strawberries fill the fruit profile, whilst there’s some caramel and toast notes there too. A lovely fine bead and moreish length
